Christmas Appeal

Singing is powerful. Our voices were our first instruments, and have a unique capacity to tell stories. Singing goes hand in hand with making meaning, and whether the music soothes us or challenges us, something special happens when singers come together. That’s why Luminescence exists, both as the Luminescence Chamber Singers - a professional ensemble, and as the Luminescence Children’s Choir - a premier program for singers aged 10 – 17.

Luminescence has grown significantly during recent years, despite the challenges of Covid-19. Since 2020 we've mounted more than 20 concert programmes, and commissioned or premiered 17 new Australian works. We’ve expanded our annual concert offerings considerably and established new education initiatives, including our first Holiday Program and annual (free!) 'come and sing' opportunities for children. We are thrilled to be one of three new organisations who will receive funding in new Arts ACT Multi-Year Organisation Investment program, but the level of funding we will receive remains significantly out of step with the scale of our current operations and our ambitions for the coming years. To ensure we can deliver our planned 2023 program, we’re asking our audiences to consider giving the gift of music this Christmas.
